James Wood

James was born in 1763 in Louisa Co., VA. James' father was David Wood and his mother was Mary Watson. His paternal grandfather was James Wood; his maternal grandparents were James Watson and Barbary ?. He was an only child. He died at the age of 36 on June 10th, 1799 in Spartanburg District, SC.

Death Notes
- "James Wood, in his will dated 18 Sept 1798 (File #244 Original Wills, Spartanburg Co. S.C.)named six children. The will, abstracted by Holcomb, is as follows:
  
  ..to my wife during her natural life, land and tenements whereon I now live, negro man Jerry, and she with my exrs. are to give to my children, William, Drewry, George, Polley, John and James a suitable English education as they arrive at suitable years; friends William Lipscomb and his son Smith Lipscomb, and my son William after he becomes of age, exrs...18 Sept 1798. General Notes
- The book "Lipscomb 300 yrs in America" has 42 different people named Wood listed. Ann Elizabeth "Nancy" Lipscomb and James Wood had 7 children mentioned on pages 222-223.

  "Barbara, Ann Elizabeth "Nancy" Lipscomb and James Wood did have 7 chidren, but if they are listed on pages 222-223 in the book Lipscomb 300 yrs in America as is in your posting #196, then something is wrong. I know how difficult it is to keep all the similar names apart; however, six of James and Nancy Lipscomb Wood's children were named in James Wood's will (Original Wills #2144, Spartanburg Co.) and probably listed in order of age:

  Drewry
  George
  Polley
  John
  James
  The will was dated 18 Sept 1798 and James died in 1799. A seventh child, Elizabeth was born in 1799."

  "It is correct they had seven children. I have not seen the Lipscomb 300 yrs book, but all quotes I have seen on the internet does not seem to reflect the children named in the will. It has been difficult to find anything on George, John and James Wood, keeping in mind they would have been born between 1786 and 1799. Can you help? Joyce Wood Wells"
