- "James Wood, in his will dated 18 Sept 1798 (File #244 Original Wills, Spartanburg Co. S.C.)named six children. The will, abstracted by Holcomb, is as follows:
..to my wife during her natural life, land and tenements whereon I now live, negro man Jerry, and she with my exrs. are to give to my children, William, Drewry, George, Polley, John and James a suitable English education as they arrive at suitable years; friends William Lipscomb and his son Smith Lipscomb, and my son William after he becomes of age, exrs...18 Sept 1798.
