Rachel was born in 1637 in Easington, Durham, England.  Rachel's father was Ralph Newby and her mother was Mary Hinchley.  Her paternal grandparents were William Newby and ?.  She had six brothers and two sisters, named William, Edward, Marke, John, Ralph, Joeph, Elinor and Isabella.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
