Marke was born on February 25th, 1638 in Earsdon, Northumberland, England.  Marke's father was Ralph Newby and his mother was Mary Hinchley.  His paternal grandparents were William Newby and ?.  He had five brothers and three sisters, named William, Edward, John, Ralph, Joeph, Rachel, Elinor and Isabella.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
