Lothaire I was born in 0795 in Altdorf, Bavaria.  Lothaire I's father was Louis I “The Pious” Holy Roman Emperor and his mother was Ermengarde (Irmengarde) Princess of Hesbaye.  His paternal grandparents were Charlemagne “Charles the Great” Holy Roman Emperor and Hildegarde Countess of Swabia (Linzgau) Empress of the Holy Roman Empire; his maternal grandparents were Ingeramne Duke of Hesbaye and Edith of Saxony Duchess of Hesbaye.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 60 on September 29th, 0855 in Pruem, Rheinland, Germany.  His burial was in St. Sauveur, France.
