John was born in 1145 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.

John's father was Baron Richard De Lacy and his mother was Albreda De Lisoures. His paternal grandparents were Eustace De Lacy (Lord of Alnwick & Malton) and Agnes Fitz Nigel Halton. He was an only child. He died due to Tyre, Holy Land at the age of 45 on October 11th, 1190 in Palestine.
