"John H. Eden Jr., age 88, a lifetime resident of Inverness, died peacefully at his home on Eden Farm, Sunday, December 27, 2009, with his wife and children by his side.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Johns Eden, Inverness; 7 children: Diana Brassard and Terri Laney, both of Waco, TX; Muriel Paul, Wauwatosa, WI; Amanda Ellis, Lakeland, FL; Amelia Brown, Inverness; Abigail Shaffer, Inverness; John H. Eden IV, Inverness; 1 brother, Bronson Eden, Waco, TX; 16 grandchildren: Abe Kinney, Eden Kinney, Spencer Paul, Skip Bone, Curtis Shaffer, Seth Paul, Hannah Shaffer, Emma Paul, Madison Shaffer, Elisha Paul, Morgan Eden, Nelson Shaffer, Luke Brown, Grace Ellis, J. Alex Eden and Emily Eden; and one great-grandchild, Evan Kinney.
The family will hold a memorial service in his honor next spring at Fort Cooper State Park. This historic land was donated by Johnny and Betty Eden to the citizens of the State of Florida in 1972. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to: The Friends of Fort Cooper Inc., a Florida Non-Profit Corp. 3100 Old Floral City Road, Inverness, FL 34450."
