John was born on September 15th, 1588 in Reading, Berkshire, England.  John's father was Nicholas Birdseye and his mother was Joan Crawley.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Crawley and Agnes Garner.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 61 in 1649 in Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut.
