- Arrived 1618 on The Treasurer. Listed as a widow in the Feb 1624/25 muster, age 30 ... Adventures of Purse and Person ed 3 has the following to say about “The Muster of the Inhabitants of Virginia 20 January-& February 1624-5”
  “ In the spring of 1622, following the Indian massacre of 22 March 1621/2, George Sandys, Treasurer of the Virginia colony, sent a letter to London by the Seaflower informing the authorities that 347 person had been killed in the tragic uprising of the savages. [Source Records VA Co. 111,p.554] Immediate action was initiated by John Farrar on behalf of the Virginia company of London by publishing the list of those slane-‘To the end that their lawfull heyres may take speedy order of the inheriting of their lands and estates there: For which the Honourable Company of Virginia are ready to doe them all right and favor…
  On 6 Dec 1623, the Council for Virginia at James City received a letter from the Treasurer and Council for the colony in London, requiring them ‘to send home by the first oppertunite of Shipping an exact list as well of all such as have died or ben sleine since the Massacre, as also of all such as are now living wth all plantations.’ In compliance, the council directed the commanders of the several plantations to make report, one such order, …”

  Page 14 has the following to say:

  [West & Sherley hundred. Charles Cittie]
  Mary [Councilor] Madison aged 30 years, on the Treasurer 1618
  Katherin Layden a Child aged 7 years
  Servants
  James Watson aged 20 years in the George 1623
  Roger Lewes aged 19 years in the Edwin in May 1617
  
  It continues to list the Provision they had on hand.
  The child Katherin Layden may have been Mary’s child by a prior marriage. Widows often remarried soon after the death of a spouse in this society.
  
  Page 16 lists the Dead at West & Sherley and at Sherley Hundred in 1624.
  Among those listed is Capt Isack Maddeson
