Louis II, known as The German, was born in 0804.  The German's father was Louis I “The Pious” Holy Roman Emperor and his mother was Ermengarde (Irmengarde) Princess of Hesbaye.  His paternal grandparents were Charlemagne “Charles the Great” Holy Roman Emperor and Hildegarde Countess of Swabia (Linzgau) Empress of the Holy Roman Empire; his maternal grandparents were Ingeramne Duke of Hesbaye and Edith of Saxony Duchess of Hesbaye. He had a brother named Lothaire I.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 72 on August 28th, 0876.
