Daughter of John Gallop, who was an Indian trader; and who, as well as his son: also named John, was renowned as an Indian fighter. Both of them served in the Pequot War, and received large grants of land in consequence of their services. John Gallop, Jr., married Hannah Lake, a niece of Governor Winthrop, and was one of the six captains killed in the fearful swamp fight at Narragansett, Dec. 19th, 1675. He left four sons and five daughters. Two of his grandsons were engaged in some of the earliest struggles during the war for independence, and were both field officers in 1777. John Gallop, Senior, owned a good deal of property in Boston. An island containing 16 acres, called Gallop's Island, belonged to him.
