James was born in 1376. James' father was James Butler and his mother was Elizabeth Anne Darcy. His paternal grandparents were James Butler and Eleanor de Bohun; his maternal grandfather is Sir John Darcy and his maternal grandmother was Lady Joan de Burgh. He was an only child. He died at the age of 29 on September 7th, 1405 in Gowran. He was buried in Gowran.
