  • Thomas Harris is related to me through both of his wives.  His first wife, Adria Gurganey, is my 11th Great Grandmother through the Branch Line (paternal grandmother) and his second wife, is my Joane Osborne my 7th Great Grandmother througn the Blythe Line (matneral grandfather).
    
    1611 Came To VA Reportedly a member of the Virginia Company in 1609, he arrived in America 1611 aboard the Prosperous, and settled in Henrico Co., Virginia. He was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1623, 1639 and 1646. A deed for 820 acres in Henrico Co., Virginia on Feb 25, 1638 names the "first wife" of Capt. Thomas Harris as Adry Harris. Married first Adria Gurgany, the daughter of Edward Gurgany, Sr. and Ann. Ann Gurgany is named as the widow of Edward in a deed of 700 acres in Henrico Co., Virginia on Jul 11, 1637, in which 400 of the said acres are said to have been granted to Edward Gurgany in 1617 and bequeathed by his widow to Capt. Thomas Harris. Thomas married second probably about 1624 Joane, who is named as the wife of Thomas Harris in a deed for 750 acres in Henrico Co., Virginia recorded Nov 11, 1635.

    Colonel Thomas Harris 1586 - Came to Virginia in 1611 with Col. Thomas Osborne and settled at "Neck of Land" in Henrico County, He was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1623, 1624, 1639, 1647.

    His near kinsman was Sir William Berkley, Royal Gov. of Va.

    We are fortunate, however, in having had preserved lists of "the Living" and "the Dead" in Virginia in February 1623 (1624) and from these we will take the names of those persons whom it is possible to identify as residing in the territory which in 1634 became Henrico County.  This official list is the earliest one made which is now known to be in existence.
