    William Hancock was born about 1648. He wed Elizabeth Cockroft, the daughter of William Cockcroft (1605- 7 July 1653) and Elizabeth Burnett (1613-1653).
    William and Elizabeth were the parents of eight children including Samuel Hancock, a carpenter, who married a cousin, Johan Hancock, the daughter of Johan Ligon and Robert Hancock. 
    William died in Lower Norfolk County in 1687 (will dated 14 April 1687, proved 17 May 1687) naming his mother and all his children in his will.
