Mary Elizabeth Dabbs

Mary Elizabeth was born in 1743. Mary Elizabeth's father was Joseph Dabbs and her mother was Nancy (Nanny) Ann Hoggatt. Her maternal grandparents were Anthony Hoggatt and Eleanor Crow. She was an only child. She died at the age of 88 in 1831 in Anson County, North Carolina.

  'Mary’s mother, Nanny Hoggatt, married James Webb after Joseph Dabbs died. James Webb and Nanny Hoggatt Dabbs Webb, along with Webb’s sons and Nanny and Joseph’s daughter Mary, moved to North Carolina, settling in Anson County where Mary married Captain Patrick Boggan. Boggan was the nephew of another Patrick Boggan who ran an Ordinary on the Trading Path between current Oxford and Durham, North Carolina, and it is possible that Mary and Patrick met there as the Dabbs/Webb family was travelling south. “Keeping an ordinary” meant operating a tavern, often in the owner’s home, if large enough.'
