Bryan De Harley

  • Bryan de Harley, Esq; succeeding his father, was denominated of Bramton Castle, in Herefordshire; he was governor of Montgomery, and Delvern Castles, in the reign of King Henry IV, which he bravely defended against that famous rebel Owen Glendour, who was forced by his valour to return from them; in memory whereof he changed his crest, which was a buck's head proper, to a lion rampant, gules, issuing out of a tower, triple towered proper. He married Isolda, 2nd daughter of Sir Ralph Lyngayne, of Stoke, Kt. by whom he had issue two sons, Richard and Geffry. In 23 Richard II having made a feoffment of his manor of Byton, to Sir Edward Mortimer, Sir Hugh Burnel, Knts and others, in trust for his said wife and his heirs by her, those feoffes in 3 Henry IV confirm the said manor to her for live with remainder to Richard Harley, her son. But the said Richard, dying unmarried, was succeeded by Jeffery his brother and heir. [Historical Collections p194]
