Shimea was born in Jerusalem, Israel.  Shimea's father was David   and his mother was Bathsheba.  His paternal grandfather was Jesse  .  He had three brothers named Shobab, Nathan and Solomon.  He had fifteen half-brothers and a half-sister, named Amnon, Daniel, Absalom, Adonijah, Shephatiah, Ithream, Ibhar, Elishua, Elpalet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada, Eliphalet and Tamar.
